  • Fun Fact of the Day: "Emeowment" is a portmanteau. A portmanteau is a blend of two or more existing words phones (sounds) and meanings. In Emeowment, "Embarkment" and "meow" are fused to form a new word that describes the journey of a cat.

  • "[Felis,the constellation was]Originally created by French astronomer Joseph Jerome le Francais de La Lande in 1805 when it was published in his Bibliographie Astronomique. La Lande is quoted as saying: "I am very fond of cats. I will let this figure scratch on the chart. The starry sky has worried me quite enough in my life, so that now I can have my joke with it." La Lande created the constellation from stars found between Antlia, the air pump, and Hydra, the sea serpent. Felis appeared on several star atlases but was never widely accepted and never become an official constellation." 

  • This was the inspiration for the characters' names: Felis and Captain de La Lande.

  • The character, Morgan, was inspired by the childhood nickname given to the author, Megan Oldakowski, by her cousins.

  • Felis is Latin for cat

  • Bastet is also known as the "Cat Goddess". Bastet translated in Hieroglyphics is the oil jar, feminine symbol, and seated goddess (as depicted on the chalkboard of page 7). Bastet means "She of the perfume jar".
